The Caregiver Respite Program was developed by the Mississauga Halton Local Health Integration Network (Mississauga Halton LHIN) in partnership with informal caregivers and health service providers that have special expertise in working with caregivers and their loved ones. The program is in response to consultations that were held during the development of the LHIN’s 2013-2016 Integrated Health Service Plan, Partnering for a Healthier Tomorrow.
What we heard from both the community and health service providers during those consultations is that caregiver burnout and stress is a growing issue that can lead to emergency department visits and tough decisions by caregivers about placing loved ones in long-term care.
We developed this website to provide caregivers with a one-stop source for accessing flexible caregiver respite programs and services designed with your needs in mind. This includes education and training, counseling, emergency and crisis respite care, out-of-home respite care (day/overnight/short stay), and in-home respite care.
Respite services in the Mississauga Halton LHIN are provided by a team of health service providers dedicated to delivering flexible, person-centred care that meets the needs of both you and your loved one.
The Mississauga Halton LHIN plans, funds, and integrates local health care services to support the delivery of high quality care, when and where it is needed. The municipalities we cover include Halton Hills, Milton, Mississauga, Oakville and south Etobicoke, and represent over 1.1 million people and 900 square kilometres.
